Working With Us

We are delighted that you are interested in joining the team here at Springmead!

Springmead is a happy, dynamic school with high expectations of its pupils and staff serving a diverse Welwyn Garden City community.  It works as an integral part of the Spiral Trust Partnership and in conjunction with a wide range of partners.

There are exciting challenges around raising the attainment of pupils, developing achievement of some under performing groups in school, and ensuring that we build a community of learners (both staff and children!) who aspire to achieve the very best for our community.

You will find a friendly and committed staff who really believe in our children and their ability to positively affect children’s lives.

To be appointed to our school we will expect you to be committed to improving pupils’ life chances.  We will expect that your practice is good or outstanding and that children make good progress under your leadership of learning.  It is essential that you have a good sense of humour and are truly dedicated to teaching and being part of a supportive team.

You can expect from us a school committed to your professional learning, a supportive leadership team and teachers and a wonderful group of people in our staff team.

We would love you to visit us and get a sense of what Springmead is all about.  Please call the office and come and look around.  Being nosey is the best way to find out all about us!

Nichola

I joined the team at Springmead in 2015 as an NQT.   Since then, I have developed a wealth of professional skills. I have had the opportunity to lead History and Eco-Schools within the school. This has given me the chance to work with all members of staff and to implement whole school initiatives and projects to celebrate key events. In January 2019, I became Key Stage One leader and have since taken over leadership of our Early Years.  This role has given me the opportunity to establish good relationships within my team, encourage good working practice and to support staff within the key stage.  Working collaboratively ensures that high standards are recognised and valued.  Working at Springmead has allowed me to develop both as a teacher and leader.  Having such a strong and supportive team around me, I have recognised my strengths and been able to work effectively to ensure my practice is always of a high standard.  I am currently studying for the NPQ in Senior Leadership.

Jemma

I started working at Springmead Primary School in September 2019 into the Lower Key Stage 2 team in Year 3 after spending a couple of years teaching Year 3 in my prior school. Since joining the school, I have led the subject French and then I progressed onto taking over as English Subject Lead in September 2020. By taking on this exciting challenge, I have been able to develop my leadership skills and impact across the school. I have trained and worked with staff from all areas of the school which has enabled me to build great communication and a good rapport with them all. Each year, there are different reading events and I have invited authors, created activities, organised competitions and established a fun reading culture in the school. I would not have been given these opportunities if it wasn’t for Springmead. This school has allowed me to grow to become a better teacher and leader.  I am current studying for the NPQ in Leading Literacy.

Why work at Springmead Primary School and Spiral Partnership Trust?

Staff workload is central to how we operate.  For teachers, we have reviewed our lesson planning requirements so that all teaching staff have limited planning requirements.  We limit the frequency and length of meetings and our marking policy reflects the time available as opposed to dictating how long you spend.  For support staff, we are constantly reviewing our administration systems to limiting paperwork so that we can focus on the job.

Spiral Trust offers benefits, including:

  • Teacher pay 5% above national rates
  • Up to 3 days ‘personal time’ leave per year (FTE) - pro rata
  • Paid sick leave for short term self-certified sickness for up to four days
  • Access to mental health and wellbeing support services
  • Excellent induction and mentor support
  • Ongoing training and other CPD opportunities to develop your career with us
